Several Senators and Congressmen are proposing legislation that will help property owners, rural communities and access to federal lands.  Here is some good legislation coming from Washington, DC:

HR 2550 - sponsored by Congressman DeLay of Texas - Private Property Protection Act of 1999.

HR 2389 - sponsored by Congressman Deal of Georgia and Congressman Boyd of Florida - Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 1999.  Approved by the House of Representatives, waiting action in the Senate.

HR 2372 - sponsored by Congressman Canady of Florida - Private Property Rights Implementation Act of 1999.  Approved by the House of Representatives, waiting action in the Senate.

HR 4021 - sponsored by Congressman Radanovich (R-CA).  Stop the Sequoia Monument Land Grab for 18 months, until a study can be completed to determine if monument status needs to be extended to any new lands in the region.

HR 4086 - sponsored by Congressman Ryun (R-KS).  The bill will compensate property owners when a railroad right of way crossing their land is converted into a public trail.

S 1938 and HR 3327 - sponsored by Senator Craig of Idaho and Congressman Nethercutt of Washington - Cabin User Fee Fairness Act of 1999.  Hearings were held on both bills in March 2000.

S 510 - sponsored by Senator Campbell of Colorado - American Land Sovereignty Protection Act.

S 1028 - sponsored by Senator Hatch of Utah - Citizens Access to Justice Act of 1999.
